one piece: chapters 1130–1142

so i immediately failed at my goal to put these out each new chapter release...

for a time, i was still reading week-to-week and leaving my reactions in my discord server, but as of writing this i've not read chapters 1143–1147 yet. before i catch back up, i wanted to chronicle the reactions i had to the chapters i've read here, since i've been meaning to do that anyways.

despite being behind, i'm likely going to take my time with each chapter when catching up. there are youtubers i've gotten into the habbit of watching the thoughts of for each chapter, so i'd like to catch up on those videos between reading each chapter anyways.

that means, while i intend to start reading again soon, i will not have a catch up post up until i'm caught up reading again. if a new chapter comes out before i'm caught up, i'll add it to the catch-up post.

as a reminder, the formatting of this: i start off with my initial reactions i write before checking my friends' spoiler tags, and then go to the whole discussion we had after.

In the volume 110 sbs, Oda seems to have implied Kizaru was the one who fed Luffy in Egghead

Reader: in chapter 1103, Luffy was so hungry and couldn't move, but in chapter 1106. He became full! Who was it that gave Luffy food?

Oda: in chapter 1103, luffy started to wolf down food. When luffy said "Foood~", who was it that responded? Was it Sanji or Franky who was present near hi̇m? Ki̇zaru and Sentoumaru were also there... Whoever did it, never got exposed, it seems. That action seems to be done at the "Speed of light", that even the naked eye can't see it. Hmmm... Even I don't know di̇d it... The speed of light...

AG: each year oda gives an out of context spoiler about something thats going to happen the next year in the manga but every time they end up being delayed by multiple years for example shanks making his move was 2021 "spoiler" but we didnt see that until 2023.
in 2017 we were told that a lurking legend with a relationship to whitebeard was going to appear and like we never got anything that clearly fits?

this theory hinges on loki being a member of rocks to be "related to WB" but im very confident that is the case

Shanks met Luffy more than 10 years before Luffy set sail

Something somewhat helpful here might be that Elbaf was not actually in the plan until recently. Oda's "2025" estimate for the ending was from a time before he planned on visiting it. He said something in an interview about going to "that place" and Oda said (paraphrasing) "I thought up a path that didn't involve it, but I don't think I could stop Luffy if I wanted to"

If Oda didn't intend on visiting Elbaf, I would imagine Loki may have initially been slated to play a different role, perhaps a more lighthearted evil trickster character, which is much more similar to his initial silhouette. I think Oda turned him into a badass as the villain for Elbaf, since he suddenly needed a villain for Luffy to face here. But maybe his previous role still counted him as a lurking legend? I don't really know what to make of the lore surrounding him quite yet, I've mostly been focusing on the Norse mythology references as material for theories
I know he said 3 years left in 2022 so he wasn't planning on coming here then for sure

AG: tbf silhouette being innacurate is the one piece 1-2 classic

It is but it gives some insight in Oda's loose idea of a character, which evolves as we get closer to them being relevant as Oda gets to know them better
But like, 100% he planned this character to enter the story somewhere else originally

AG: it does feel like elbaf was meant to be this raijin island 2 where we only get to hear about it but not actually have an arc about it i do agree there but loki seems too conected to the story to not be planned
it might be that the lurking legend was meant to be someone else but loki inherited his lore and backstory so he can have this role in the arc

Oh Loki was 100% planned regardless, I'm just saying he probably wouldn't have been introduced tied to the treasure tree adam if we didn't come to Elbaf

Just did some research on the lurking legend thing and apparently at one point Oda said that the wano arc would feature them. He also said they will "bring chaos to the world" which is very trickster god Loki coded, and that "it's a character I've wanted to draw for a long time."
I definitely think that plan for what arc would feature them has changed
Also where did you get that [shanks was on elbaf 6 years ago] was true?

idk to me this feels like it's more likely to be referencing the fact that Shanks was just on Elbaf and left before we got there

I don't think we needed it either but I think at this point there might be talks to extend the series as long as Oda is willing to since there's nothing like it Jump will be able to replace it with

I don't think two piece is happening lol but I am hopeful Oda will explore more of this world at his own pace after it was over. Like a standalone volume following Roger, or Garp, or really anyone that isn't made on the WSJ schedule but just as a hobby in Oda's free time

He has said though that it'll be over when they find the one piece
Personally, I think the only thing that's gonna come after that is a big final party with all the people of the world, which is my best guess for Luffy's secret dream

I honestly think that Blackbeard's next move is gonna be going to Fish-Man Island and capturing Shirahoshi, once he hears out the info Caribou has. He has two ancient weapons to choose from a and I don't see him going to Wano right after we helped liberate it, so I'm thinking Fish-man island might be the right choice for him
and that's why we'll do it

i think the mural isn't strictly prophetic though, it also represents the first two worlds, so it's unclear exactly which role enel will play

okay so i get we're doing the whole "loki is kind of a dick" thing. i just hope oda does it well because as it stands i feel like luffy has been pretty fucking stupid in his decision to free loki. i really don't want the inciting incident on elbaf be "oh we just decided to free the country's most dangerous criminal". it just feels kinda forced and like it really didn't need to happen. prove me wrong oda! make me feel like this is the only way the story could have gone!
